Barry e Robin Gibb hanno ricevuto ieri a Londra il prestigioso premio "Ivor Novello" Academy Fellowship.
Il premio è attribuito ad una strettissima elite di artisti ritenuti particolarmente rappresentativi dalla "British Academy of Composers & Songwriters" (accdemia Britannica dei compositori ed autori) e dalla "Perfoming Right Society" (l'equivalente della nostra SIAE, la società che cura la liquidazione dei diritti d'autore). 
Il premio è stato assegnato soltanto nove volte nel corso degli ultimi 51 anni.
"E' stupefacente.", ha dichiarato Barry. "E quello che è davvero stupefacente è essere qui in compagnia di tantissimi autori che ammiriamo". Riferendosi allo scomparso Maurice ha detto: "Mo (è il nomignolo con cui lo chiamava sempre) , sappiamo che sei qui e che saresti felice di questo e ti salutiamo". Accettando il premio, Barry e Robin hanno effettuato una menzione speciale del loro manager storico, Robert Stigwood, che ha fatto una delle sue rarissime aparizioni pubbliche in occasione della cerimonia. "Non saremmo qui, se non ci fosse stato Robert", ha dichiarato Robin. Barry ha definito Stigwood "l'uomo che ha rivoltato sotto sopra l'intera industria discografica.

"Ivor Awards Handed Out In London" (Billboard)

Legendary songwriting and producing team Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff, Kinks frontman Ray Davies, electro-rock outfit New Order and veteran pop siblings the Bee Gees were among the honorees Thursday (May 25) at the 51st Ivor Novello Awards for songwriters.
The British Academy of Composers & Songwriters presented the awards during a lunchtime gala at London's Grosvenor House Hotel in association with authors' body the Performing Right Society.
The Bee Gees were inducted into the Academy fellowship. The surviving members of the act, Robin and Barry Gibb, paid particular tribute to their former manager Robert Stigwood during their acceptance speeches. Stigwood, who made a rare public appearance at the event. "We wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for Robert Stigwood," said Robin Gibb. Brother Barry described the veteran manager and label boss as "the man who turned our whole industry upside down."
Ivor Novello trophies are typically awarded to British songwriters who have made a distinctive and lasting contribution to the country's music scene and influenced the course of contemporary music culture. The gala is generally recognized as one the most prestigious ceremonies on the British awards calendar.
